A Blooming Season of Community: Looking Back at Black Pot Bookshop's 2025 Markets & Peeking at Easter & Mother's Day!

The air has been alive with the buzz of community, the vibrant colors of local crafts, and the delicious aromas of homegrown goodness here at Black Pot Bookshop!

As the 2025 market season unfolds, we've been so thrilled to host a wonderful array of events, bringing together the heart and soul of Opelousas and the surrounding areas. Let's take a moment to reminisce about the fantastic markets we've enjoyed so far, and then peek ahead at the exciting celebrations we have planned for our upcoming Easter and Mother's Day Markets!

Celebrating Tradition: The Mardi Gras Mask-Making Workshop (Lead-up to Mardi Gras

While not a traditional market in the open-air sense, the spirit of community and local artistry was undeniably present during our Traditional Art of Cajun Mask-making workshop leading up to Mardi Gras.
We were deeply honored to host the incredibly talented Mrs. Gerry Soileau, a true keeper of this beautiful cultural tradition. For over 50 years, Mrs. Gerry has been sewing and passing down the intricate skills of crafting authentic Cajun masks. This free workshop offered a unique opportunity for our community to connect with their heritage, learn a time-honored craft, and prepare for the joyous celebrations of Mardi Gras. The creativity and passion in the room were truly inspiring!

Springing into Community: The Opelousas Downtown Market's Spring Edition (March 15th)

We kicked off the season with our lively Spring Market back on March 15th! The St. Landry Bank Parking Lot was transformed into a bustling hub of local talent. It was a joy to welcome so many of you, eager to discover unique handmade crafts, locally sourced produce, and delightful gifts.

A particular highlight was the presence of our very own local children's author, Gigi Fontenot! She captivated young readers with her charming "Adventures of Bootsy: A Cajun Pitbull" series, sharing her heartwarming stories and signing books for her growing fanbase. The energy of the day was infectious, a true testament to the vibrant spirit of our Opelousas community.

Looking Ahead: Hopping into Fun at the Easter Market (April 12th)

Now, with spring fully in bloom, we're eagerly anticipating our Bunny Hop Market this Saturday, April 12th! Get ready to bring the whole family for a "hoppin'" good time! We'll be welcoming the Easter Bunny himself, and kids are encouraged to bring their baskets for a fun-filled Easter Egg Hunt starting at 1:30 PM!
